Pulwama : The Shar e Kashmir University of Agriculture Sciences and Technology Kashmir (SKUAST-K) is gearing up for its annual Technology Exhibition and Seed Sale Mela, scheduled to take place on March 4th and 5th at its Shalimar campus in Srinagar.
This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever before, with over 300 stalls set to be showcased, marking a significant increase from the previous years.
Director Extension of SKUAST-K, Professor Dil Mohammed Makhdoomi, highlighted the growing popularity of the event, attributing it to the support from media and various stakeholders.
One of the standout features of the exhibition is the participation of university startups, with SKUAST-K proudly claiming the top spot in startups and innovations among agricultural universities in the country.
Notably, SKUAST-K encourages its students to pursue entrepreneurial ventures alongside their studies, with 15 students currently running private limited companies with the support and funding provided by the university.
The university also encourages its faculty members to start their own start-ups.
A separate place will be reserved for students and faculty members to showcase their stalls, university authorities revealed.
In addition to showcasing university startups, the Mela will also feature stalls by farmers who have been mentored by SKUAST-K and have grown to become millionaire farmers.
The university’s efforts in promoting agriculture entrepreneurship extend to the establishment of Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), including four Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), with one being exclusively managed by women, a unique feat in the country.
Furthermore, the exhibition will provide a platform for farmers and entrepreneurs affiliated with SKUAST-K’s 10 Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) to showcase their products and innovations.
Attendees can expect to find a diverse range of seeds on display, including advanced, short duration, climate-resilient, and disease-resistant varieties, catering to the evolving needs of modern agriculture.
Agriculture and allied sectors technology will be in display during the fair.
