Srinagar, June 23: A team of scientists from the Division of Entomology, FoH, SKUAST-K, visited various apple orchards of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday and assessed the present status of apple fruit borer. The university has already issued an ADHOC advisory to the orchardists, advising them to manage this pest and ensure orchard sanitation on a community basis.
After critical examination in different villages – Delina, Singhpora, Rohama, Check Gojree, Chandkout, Choora and Authoora – a considerable reduction in the pest population was observed at the orchards where Adhoc advisory issued by the Division of Entomology, SKUAST-K was followed strictly.
The scientists observed that the integrated management of pheromone traps and the application of specific chemicals has shown positive results. However, in some areas attention is needed with respect to adherence to Adhoc advisory, they said.
