Srinagar, Feb 03: Dr. Showkat Ahmad Dar, alumnus of SKUAST-Kashmir, has been selected for the prestigious Ramanujan Fellowship.
Ramanujan Fellowship is meant for brilliant Indian scientists and engineers from outside India to take up scientific research positions in India, those Indian scientists, engineers who want to return to India from abroad. The fellowship is scientist -specific and very selective. The Ramanujan Fellows could work in any of the scientific institutions and universities in the country and they would be eligible for receiving regular research grants through the extramural funding schemes of various S&T agencies of the Government of India.
Dr. Showkat’s nomination was given by Prof. (Dr.) Nazir A. Ganai, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir.
He was working from last two and half years as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Chonnam National University on “Smart healthcare of cultured olive Flounder” under Korean National Research Foundation Program, South Korea.
The project involved the use of Artificial Intelligence for growth and development, disease diagnosis monitoring and vaccine preparation against viral diseases in fish. The study provided valuable insights in the nutrient-gene interactions at molecular level and well oriented principles of aquatic animal nutrition to enhance the growth performance and immune status of the fish.
Dr. Showkat has done his B.F.Sc degree from Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-Kashmir and has been awarded Dr. K.V. Devraj award among best fisheries graduates of India. He did his M.F.Sc. and Ph.D. from ICAR-CIFE, Mumbai.
He has also been awarded with Dr Hirlal Chaudary Gold Medal Award for being topper of the MFSc batch. He is recipient of Young Scientist Award, International Young Scientist Award and best Ph.D. thesis wards during his research career.
Division of Fish Nutrition and Biochemistry (FNB), Faculty of Fisheries, SKUAST-K is his place of work for the Ramanujan fellowship under the mentorship of Dr. Ovais Asmi, Head, Division of FNB.
