Jammu, Jan 30: The Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy (SKPA), in collaboration with the SVP National Police Academy (NPA) Hyderabad, launched a three-day specialised course on Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) for officers and officials of the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The course, which commenced Thursday, aims to enhance the investigative capabilities of law enforcement officers by providing hands-on training in key OSINT techniques.
The training program is designed to teach various OSINT methodologies, including social media analysis, geolocation tracking, and data mining. Expert resource persons, including Arif Ali Khan, Shaik Ghousal Mubarak, and Parmesh Naik from the SVP NPA Hyderabad, will conduct different sessions on these crucial topics. Given the increasing reliance on digital platforms, OSINT has become an indispensable tool in intelligence gathering and modern policing.
The course aims to equip officers with the skills necessary to responsibly analyse and interpret open-source data, ensuring more effective and timely interventions in criminal investigations. The participants will learn to leverage publicly available information ethically and efficiently to enhance crime detection, cyber investigations, and national security. An inaugural function was held to mark the beginning of the course, with Garib Dass, IPS, Additional Director General of Police and Director of SKPA, gracing the event as the chief guest. In his address, Garib Dass emphasised the growing significance of OSINT in contemporary law enforcement. He highlighted how open-source data plays a critical role in areas such as crime detection, cyber investigations, and ensuring national security. He urged the officers to stay ahead in the digital age by utilizing open-source intelligence responsibly. The inaugural function was attended by Deputy Director and other faculty members of SKPA. The course is being coordinated by Rakesh Sambyal, CPO, and supported by Shri Rohit Gupta, Inspector. This initiative is expected to enhance the capability of J&K Police officers in handling digital investigations, marking a significant step towards modernising policing practices in the region.
