Srinagar, Oct 23: The valedictory function which was organized by the Sericulture Dev. Department in wake of the conclusion of a three-day Skill Development Training Programme and Capacity Building Activities under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) was held on Wednesday at the Seed Unit in New Theed Harwan, Srinagar. The event honored the achievements of the participants, while recognizing their commitment to advancing sericulture in Jammu and Kashmir.
The program was graced by Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director Sericulture J&K, who attended as the chief guest. In his keynote address, Bhat emphasized the vital role that training programs like these play in improving traditional sericulture practices across the Union Territory. He noted that these initiatives are crucial in introducing innovative techniques and modern methods to farmers and silkworm rearers, helping them increase production and improve the quality of their produce.
Mr. Bhat further highlighted the potential impact of these programs on cocoon production, which he projected would see a significant boost due to the adoption of new techniques. He stressed that these advancements would also contribute to enhancing silkworm seed production across Jammu and Kashmir, supporting the region’s goal of becoming a leader in sericulture.
The Director also spoke on the importance of spreading awareness about the department’s various sericulture practices and schemes. He shared that the Hon’ble Minister for Agriculture Production Department, J&K, has placed particular emphasis on the need for public outreach programs to ensure that the benefits of these initiatives reach every farmer involved in sericulture. According to Mr. Bhat, such efforts are critical in empowering farmers and ensuring they take full advantage of government schemes aimed at improving their livelihoods.
During his address, Mr. Bhat expressed his satisfaction with the success of the training program, particularly in terms of human resource development. He noted that these capacity-building efforts have a profound impact on the socio-economic fabric of J&K, enhancing the skills and productivity of local communities involved in sericulture.
The Director reiterated the need for continuous training and capacity-building programs for both field functionaries and silkworm rearers, as they enable the adoption of modern practices and innovations, which are essential for the long-term growth of the sericulture sector.
The function concluded with the distribution of tool kits and certificates to the participants of the training program, marking a significant step forward in the journey of J&K’s sericulture development.
