Srinagar, Oct 19: In a commendable effort to heighten awareness about breast cancer, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) has partnered with the Cancer Society of Kashmir to organize a comprehensive one-day breast cancer awareness program. The event, held at SKUAST-K’s Shalimar campus, brought together a formidable assembly of five hundred female students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff from various faculties of SKUAST-Kashmir.
The day commenced with a warm welcome from Prof. S. A. Wani, Dean of the Faculty of Horticulture, to the eager participants. Prof. Nazir A. Ganai, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K, delivered the inaugural address, emphasizing the vital role of initiatives like these in promoting health awareness and overall well-being within the community. Prof. Ganai praised the organizing committee’s unwavering dedication and hard work in ensuring the event’s success, underscoring the university’s commitment to raising awareness and educating the public about critical health issues such as breast cancer.
The October Pink speakers graced the event with their expertise, shedding light on various facets of breast cancer. Dr. Tariq Abdullah Khawar provided a comprehensive introduction to the awareness program, stressing its paramount importance in breast cancer prevention and early detection. Prof. (Dr.) M Maqbool Lone dispelled common myths surrounding breast cancer and offered an insightful overview of various cancer types, empowering participants with accurate information. Prof. (Dr.) Shahida Nasreen delved into the risk factors linked to breast cancer and highlighted essential prevention strategies.
Prof. (Dr.) Nissar Ahmad Wani passionately addressed the critical subject of early diagnosis and timely treatment of breast cancer, emphasizing the life-saving significance of prompt medical intervention. Prof. (Dr.) Shaqul Qamar provided valuable insights into breast cancer screening methods, urging participants to prioritize regular check-ups. Special emphasis was given to the practice of Breast Self-Examination, a vital tool in early detection, elucidated by the expert speakers.
The event concluded with a gracious vote of thanks presented by Prof. Shaheen Gul, expressing gratitude for the collective efforts of the organizing committee and acknowledging the participants and esteemed speakers for their valuable contributions to the breast cancer awareness cause.
