Bandipora, Oct 14: Member of Parliament (MP) for Baramulla Lok Sabha seat, Engineer Rashid on Monday questioned National Conference (NC) vice president Omar Abdullah over timeline for restoring Article 370, asking whether people of Jammu & Kashmir would have to wait 50 years under the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) rule.
Speaking to reporters after a review meeting at the district headquarters here, Rashid criticised Prime Minister Modi for shifting his goals due to which many political leaders in Kashmir are “feeling trapped”.
During the meeting, he reviewed ongoing developmental works and listened to various public delegations. He assured them that their grievances would be addressed promptly.
The MP also inaugurated a grievance cell office for Bandipora residents and released helpline numbers to facilitate the registration of complaints.
He urged PM Modi and Lieutenant Governor Sinha to support the elected government for the benefit of the people, saying that Kashmir has faced significant challenges over the past five years.
Rashid said the National Conference, which had previously promised to restore the 1953 status, now seems distant from prioritising statehood restoration after regaining power.
