Trivanthripuram, Jan 06: The batters of Jammu and Kashmir team showed poor application, poor commitment and lack of technique crushing under the wheels of quality Goa bowling attack led by the pace duo of India cricketer Shikha Pandey and Nikita Malik and the spinning trio of Taranum Pathan, Poorva Bhaidkar and Priyanka.
Watching J&K collapse like a house of cards against Goa on Saturday was a disaster that left everyone fuming–may it be the support staff, the spectators or the BCCI officials who saw them play quality cricket on the other day against Rajasthan in the tournament opener. Call it vile or call it bile, the sense of outrage amongst everyone at pathetic cricket dished out by Sandhya Sayal’s side has taken everyone by storm during a match of Senior Women’s One Day Trophy at St. Xavier’s College Ground, Thumba, Trivanthripuram on Saturday.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, J&K collapsed at a meagre total of 38 runs in 17 overs. Rudrakshi Chib was the only batter to cross double figure mark, scoring 13 runs off 20 balls, studded with 3 boundaries, while Shivanti Gupta contributed 9 runs in the very first over of Shikha Pandey, smashing 2 delectable boundaries. Chitra Singh Jamwal and Rubia Syed scored 4 runs each, while other seven batters contributed either zero or one run to the paltry total.
For Goa, Nitika Malik was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 important wickets by conceding 16 runs in her six overs, while Poorva and Taranum bagged 2 wickets each. Shikha Pandey and Priyanka claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Goa chased the target easily in 6.1 overs by losing 1 wicket to win the match by 9 wickets.
Opening batter Shrey remained unbeaten on 27 runs off 19 balls studded with 4 boundaries, while wicketkeeper batter Vinavi Gurav was unbeaten on one. Tejashwini Duragad was the only batter dismissed for 3 runs.
For J&K, skipper Sandhya Sayal took the lone wicket to fall.
J&K will face Meghalaya in the next outing at KCA Cricket Stadium, Mangalapuram, Trivanthripuram on January 8, 2024.
