Kargil, May 14: In response to emerging security concerns in the region, the District Magistrate of Kargil, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, has issued a crucial order mandating the verification of all tenants and domestic helpers within the district.
According to the order, a copy of which lies with Rising Kashmir, whereas the Senior Superintendent of Police, Kargil, has requested that there is a need to conduct verification of tenants/domestic helpers on an urgent basis in light of recent security issues in the region.
Whereas, the situation warrants taking some measures in order to increase the accountability of landlords, property owners before renting out, making available their premises to tenants, domestic helpers without proper verification and authorisation and whereas considering the possibility of the threat posed by adverse elements as to public safety and security, there is a need for immediate preventive measures under section 163 of BNSS.
“Now, therefore, for the reasons mentioned above and by virtue of powers vested in me under section 163 of BNSS, I, Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, District Magistrate, Kargil, do hereby order and require all landlords, owners of properties, attorney holders, persons in charge of properties in any capacity (hereafter called as owners) located within the entire jurisdiction of the district to comply strictly with the following directions: (a) All owners shall, after the issuance of this order and within seven days, submit without fail the detailed particulars of the tenant(s), as per the Declaration Form, to be signed by both the owners and the tenant(s), to the concerned Police Station, either in person or by registered post addressed to the concerned Station House Officer (SHO),” the order reads, adding that “The owners who have already let/sub-let/rented out their house(s) or part(s) thereof to any tenant(s) on any date prior to the issuance of this order shall submit the detailed particulars of the tenant(s), as per the declaration form, to the concerned Police Station within seven days.”
It states that every SHO in Kargil district shall mandatorily maintain a separate register for such purpose. “Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under relevant laws. As the notice cannot be served individually on all concerned, this order is hereby passed ex-parte. It is being promulgated for the information of the public at large and shall be published on the district website, leading newspapers, and by affixing copies on the notice boards of the offices of SSP Kargil, all SDMs, all Tehsildars, and all SHOs of Kargil District. SSP Kargil and all SHOs shall ensure strict compliance with this order, the order reads,” the statement said. It said that the administration has urged all citizens to cooperate fully, stating that these measures are crucial to strengthening the security framework of the district.
