Ganderbal, Aug 19: The newly appointed Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Sonamarg Development Authority (SDA), Gh Mohd Bhat, initiated a large-scale demolition drive against illegal structures in the Sonamarg region on his first day in office.
Gh Mohd Bhat, who was recently transferred and posted as the CEO of the SDA, took charge on Monday. Upon receiving multiple complaints about unauthorized constructions in the area, Bhat immediately directed his employees to take action. The demolition drive, conducted with the full support and cooperation of the Sonamarg Police, aimed to curb the rampant illegal construction activities that have marred the region’s natural beauty.
Throughout the day-long operation, several illegal structures were demolished, signaling the SDA’s firm stance on maintaining the legal construction standards and preserving Sonamarg’s eco-fragile environment. Bhat emphasized that illegal constructions would not be tolerated under any circumstances, and strict legal action would be taken against violators.
The CEO’s actions align with the 2017 Jammu and Kashmir High Court order, which banned all construction activities in the tourist resort of Sonamarg to protect its pristine environment.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Bhat stated, “When I received complaints regarding illegal constructions, I immediately directed my employees to demolish them. Illegal construction will not be tolerated in Sonamarg, and anyone involved will be dealt with as per the law.”
