Banihal, Mar 04: National Conference leader and District President, Ramban Mr Sajjad Shaheen on Monday expressed deep sorrow and anguish over the death of four persons and injuries to other three persons in a tragic road accident near Shalgadi on Pogal-Maligam road in tehsil Ukharhal on Monday.
Expressing grief over the accident, Shaheen said, “There has been a steep increase in the number of road accidents on the Jammu-Srinagar highway and its peripheral roads in which numerous precious lives are lost every year. What is worrying here is the fact that there has been no initiative by the concerned authorities to curb the occurrence of such fatal accidents.”
He said the highway and its peripheral roads have unfortunately turned into death traps. The process however requires strict scientific action from the administration, which has shut its eyes and ears to the mounting road accidents, he said.
Shaheen called for urgent attention to the condition of roads and highways in District Ramban and emphasized the need for infrastructure improvement to prevent future accidents.
He has urged the Lt Governor administration to immediately sanction Rs 10 lakh as ex-gratia relief in favour of the next of kith and kin of those who died in the fatal accident poor deceased and Rs 2 lakh to the seriously injured ones besides ensuring specialized treatment for the injured.
