Srinagar, Sept 06: The Jammu and Kashmir People’s Conference on Friday released its list of candidates for the upcoming elections in seven symbolic constituencies of north Kashmir. The list was issued by the party’s Senior General Secretary, Imran Reza Ansari.
According to the list, Sajad Lone, the party chief, will contest elections from both the Handwara and Kupwara constituencies while Imran Ansari will contest from the Pattan constituency.
Former MLA Bashir Ahmad Dar has been asked to contest from the newly formed Trehgam constituency in Kupwara district. Irfan Panditpuri will contest from the Langate constituency. Dr Naseer Awan has been assigned the Karnah constituency, and Mudasir Akbar Shah has been given the Lolab constituency.
Political experts believe Sajad Lone may face a close contest in the Handwara constituency considered a hot seat in north Kashmir. Here, he will be up against J&K National Conference leader and former minister Chaudhary Mohammad Ramzan.
Similarly, in the Kupwara district, Lone may face several leaders from the NC and PDP. It will be interesting to see how many seats the J&K People’s Conference will win in this election.
In the previous assembly election held in 2014, the PC won two seats in Kupwara, including the Handwara and Kupwara seats, where Advocate Bashir Ahmad Dar was victorious.
