Udhamour, Nov 10: A three-day Vertical Interaction Course on “Smart Policing” commenced here in which 31 police officers of the ranks from Dy SP to SSP are participating. ADGP, Director S K Police Academy Garib Dass (IPS) was the chief guest in the inauguration session.
SSP, Deputy Director Trainings Mohan Lal, (JKPS) welcomed the chief guest and informed that the theme of the course was envisioned by Prime Minister Narender Modi in the conference of heads of State/UT and central police organizations at Guwahati in 2014. Since then, the subject is being reviewed in every year’s DGP/IGP conference. As such occupies the core of the agenda of various training courses.
The ADGP welcomed the guest speaker Gulzar Singh Slathia (IPS), former IGP, participants and explained the acronym forming the theme of the course. He said that crime in virtual space is increasing linearly and the situation demands that the law enforcing agencies have to be tech savvy.
“There are 67 crore network users in India and in a couple of years the numbers will snowball to 99 crores which gives us fair idea of flux of network activities, obviously the crime in cyber space. There are a number of hackers all over the globe, capable of hacking Air Traffic Control, Railways operations, Electrical grids, Defence equipment and many more systems. In case we do not catch up the fast changing technology, the criminals and the enemy agents will be in complete control of the situation,” he said.
He also gave an overview of internal security threats from terrorism, narco terrorism, soft skills, and vulnerable groups including women, children and the elderly, importance of intelligence collection etc. as these encompass the agenda of the course.
