Kulgam, Jan 22: Jammu and Kashmir Bank (J&KB) Rural Self-Employment Training Institute (RSETI), in Kulgam district of South Kashmir, has empowered hundreds of entrepreneurs in the district by training them in various trades to make them self-reliant.
This was stated by the officials during a Bazar event held on Wednesday at the DC office lawns. An official from JKB RSETI told Rising Kashmir that the institute has been providing opportunities to youth, enabling them to become self-reliant.
He said over two hundred batches have undergone training in various programs, helping participants establish their own startups and earn a livelihood since RSETI’s inception in Kulgam. This year alone, hundreds of entrepreneurs were trained to achieve self-reliance.
“Overall, we have trained thousands of youth, with more than half successfully settled in various trades,” he added.
A woman entrepreneur involved in knitting said the exhibition provides them with a platform to showcase their products, reaching a wider audience.
She said that she has been engaged in knitting for the past ten years and credited JKB RSETI Kulgam for providing initial support that launched her entrepreneurial journey.
“I am satisfied with the livelihood I earn now. I work from home and also run my business, which opens up more opportunities. Earning an income reduces the burden on my family,” she said.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam, Athar Aamir Khan, told reporters that RSETI is established in every district to provide training to local youth.
DC Kulgam said that youth receive training in fields such as dairy, animal rearing, handicrafts, knitting, electrical work, and nutrition, among others, with a wide range of courses offered.
“RSETI Kulgam has trained a large number of youth this year. Along with training, they are guided towards self-employment. The institute facilitates credit access and provides support for the next two years to monitor progress,” he said.
“Youth who have undergone training and vendors conducting their business were given the chance to display their products here at DC office. On January 26, RSETI Kulgam will organise another exhibition near Ganta Ghar,” he said
