Srinagar, Mar 12: Ranbir Singh Pathania, BJP spokesperson and former MLA Ramnagar, on Tuesday said the party is ready for simultaneous Lok Sabha and assembly elections if proposed by the Election Commission of India (ECI). He said the Bharatiya Janata Party is in favour of democracy and elections in the union territory.
“We are in favour of elections whenever it will be announced by ECI in J&K. Lok Sabha elections will be held along with Panchayat and Municipal elections. If ECI wants to conduct both elections simultaneously we are ready for that,” Pathania said.
Senior leaders of the J&K BJP met with the Election Commission of India at SKICC, Srinagar. The delegation, comprising Advocate R S Pathania Spokesperson, Advocate Parimoksh Seth, Convenor of the Human Rights Cell, Seh Prabhari Kashmir Rafiq Ahmed Wani, and NEC member Showkat Gayoor, called on ECI, to emphasise the BJP’s preparedness for the forthcoming assembly, Lok Sabha, and panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing the press conference at party headquarters after meeting with ECI members, the BJP spokesperson said the people of Kashmir should participate in elections. He said some political parties spread propaganda against the BJP.
The press conference witnessed the presence of key BJP figures including Altaf Thakur, the party’s spokesperson, and Advocate Sajid Yousuf Shah, the media in-charge for Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Thakur said, “It seems (PDP chief and J&K former CM) Mehbooba Mufti is feeling the jolts of CAA as she looks totally unaware of its benefits and applicability. Her statement is totally misleading and yet again part of her divisive politics. People are aware and wise enough to understand the CAA. No place for politics of hate in J&K.”
