Pulwama, May 29: A malignant patient from Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is serving as an inspiration for many.
Mohammad Ramzan Wani, 68, suffered from throat cancer in 2019 and subsequently was operated at valley’s premier tertiary care hospital, Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Soura Srinagar.
After the surgery he was unable to talk for around six months. With follow up treatment, though, he gained his speech but talks meekly.
This life threatening disease which pushes many into despair has failed to defeat Ramzan’s passion to spread hope and positivity in his surroundings.
Ramzan, who retired from the education department as senior lecturer in 2013, has dedicated himself to serve people in far flung areas.
With a charming persona this aged resident from Midoora village of Tral is always seen spreading hope and positivity among others.
On previous Sunday Ramzan led a team of doctors and paramedics which included his son, daughter and daughter in law for conducting a health camp for Gujjar Basti Midoora on a hill top- A 5 kilometer path is motorable
This malignancy struck the teacher who walked on foot to climb a one and half kilometer steep path to reach the Midoora hill top.
He didn’t only climb this slippery steep path through boulders with courage but motivated his team to reach the destination.
“ It has always been my priority to reach people in hard to reach areas,” Ramzan, told Rising Kashmir.
He said that his passion to serve people in need intensified after 2019.
Once the daunting task of climbing the hill was achieved, many people from Gujjar Basti Midoora, assembled there who were given free of cost medicine after screening by the trained doctors.
Mohammad Yusuf Gujjar, the sarpanch of Gujjar Basti Midoora, told Rising Kashmir that he knew Master Ji ( Ramzan) from past many years.
He said that Master Ji has been organising medical camps for poor people for many years.
The sarpanch also said that Master Ji is empowering women from their community to become economically independent.
The sarpanch narrated that Master Ji has helped around 1800 girls out of which around 200 belong to Gujjar community to learn art of crewelling through handicrafts department.
“Master Ji is helping them to get assignments so that they don’t fall short of work,” the sarpanch said.
Ramzan said that crewel work fetches these artisans a decent amount with which they manage arranging many things of daily need.
Besides these, Ramzan is seen in awareness camps, social mobilisation programmes and other voluntary works across the district.
