Qazigund, Jan 31: The office of the Executive Magistrate 1st Class Qazigund in south Kashmir is functioning in a dilapidated building.
The space crunch is causing inconvenience to the general public visiting the office and also the employees working there.
The people visiting the office rued the state of the dilapidated building and called for immediate repairs or its relocation to a new facility.
Though Qazigund was upgraded to a territorial tehsil in 2014, it continues to function in just four poorly maintained rooms, a visitor told Rising Kashmir.
He said that authorities, despite being well informed of the condition of the office, barely pay attention to it.
As per locals, the office caters to over 15 revenue villages and operates in the same building that was a Nayabat before being upgraded to a tehsil.
The tehsil office has also got the 11KV lines dangling in front of the building, a local said, adding that recently, a pipe leakage almost submerged it.
Khursheed Ahmad, Tehsildar Qazigund, told Rising Kashmir that they have written to higher-ups in this regard. “We are aware of the dilapidated state of the building and we have already taken it up with the concerned quarters,” he said.
“There are a few buildings that can be utilised as a substitute, but so far, we didn’t get any positive response on it,” the tehsildar said.
