Srinagar, Dec 26: Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary on Thursday said that Punjabi will be introduced as a subject in schools across the Union Territory.
Speaking to reporters at Rajouri, Choudhary said that teaching Punjabi in schools will help people connect with their religion and culture, as many religious texts and books are written in Punjabi.
He added that this is a genuine demand from the community and assured that the government is committed to making this a reality.
Choudhary also said that introducing Punjabi in schools will preserve the language and benefit future generations. The government, he said, is working to promote linguistic diversity and safeguard cultural heritage.
He also said that the government is also working on fulfilling the dream of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to open the roads of Mirpur-Kotli, and Jangar to Pakistan-Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (POJK).
He expressed hope that this vision would soon be realized to benefit border residents.
He said that opening these routes would provide immense economic and social benefits to the people living in border areas. He added that the government is actively considering the demands of the border communities and taking steps to address their needs.
Choudhary said that fulfilling Vajpayee’s dream would not only pay homage to the former Prime Minister but also improve the lives of border residents by boosting greater connectivity and opportunities.
