Pulwama, Jan 29 : Residents of Wahibugh and nearby villages in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district have urged authorities of the animal husbandry department to align them with the closest veterinary sub-block.
The residents informed Rising Kashmir that Wahibugh and surrounding villages, such as Daffarpora, Zadoora, Looswani, Nara Nowpora, Chewakalan, Gusoo, and Fresipora, are currently connected to a distant veterinary sub-block located in Haal (Hawal), a village approximately 8 kilometres from the district headquarters on the boundary between Pulwama and Shopian.
Ghulam Hassan, a local resident, expressed that traveling to Haal is causing them inconvenience as it is not directly connected to their area, requiring a journey of around 18 kilometres.
The residents said that their hamlet is very close to the nearest sub-blocks in Newa, Pulwama, and Rahmoo, pleading with authorities to align them with these respective sub-blocks.
Abdul Hamid, another resident, pointed out that the current alignment is causing challenges for both residents and the concerned veterinary surgeons.
They said that the travel to Haal for processing various scheme documents is tiring and time-consuming, especially for aged cattle holders.
They said handling emergency cases of cattle in this distant hamlet becomes challenging for concerned veterinary surgeons, often leading them to seek assistance from the nearest sub-blocks.
The residents are requesting higher authorities in the animal husbandry department to address their long-standing grievance by aligning them with the nearest respective sub-blocks.
When Rising Kashmir brought this matter to the attention of higher authorities in the animal husbandry department, they directed inquiries to the Chief Animal Husbandry Officer in Pulwama, saying that he is well acquainted with the local topography.
Chief Animal Husbandry Officer Pulwama, Feroz Ahmad, said that cattle holders in these villages can seek treatment from any of the nearest sub-blocks but they need to travel to Haal for the fulfilment of formalities required for the sanction of various government schemes.
The officer said that re-organisation is carried out by higher authorities and assured that they would write to them for the reorganization of these villages.
