Pulwama, July 23: A woman from Rakh Litter village of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district died at LD hospital on intervening night of Saturday and Sunday after alleged negligence in handling the  case at District hospital Pulwama .
Anisa, wife of Feroz Ahmad from Rakh village of Litter area of Pulwama, a pregnant lady, was operated at DH Pulwama on Saturday night for delivery, a relative, Manzoor Ahmad, informed Rising Kashmir.
Manzoor was one among the relatives who was attending Anisa at DH Pulwama and LD Hospital Srinagar.
He said that after delivering a girl baby her postoperative condition at DH Pulwama was stable for sometime and thereafter she developed pain.
He said that they invited the attention of on duty staff and doctors towards her condition.
He added that the doctors described the postoperative pain as a usual phenomenon and ignored the patient for around one hour.
“When her pain intensified she was referred to LD Hospital Srinagar in a hurry ,” he said, adding that doctors at LD informed the relatives that she had almost collapsed at the arrival and her chances of survival were slim.
Manzoor said that she collapsed at the maternity hospital in Srinagar after doctors failed to resuscitate her.
The relatives alleged mishandling of the case at DH Pulwama.
“We heard doctors at LD saying that she had suffered profuse bleeding due to damage to some internal organs at DH Pulwama,” the relatives said.
The relatives demanded thorough investigation in the matter.
Medical superintendent DH Pulwama, Dr Abdul Gani Dar, told Rising Kashmir that the surgery was done in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday.
He said that the postoperative period was uneventful for sometime after which the patient’s condition started deteriorating as she developed breathlessness.
“The doctors say that they have followed all SOP while handling the case at DH Pulwama,” he said, adding that they cannot refute the allegations of the family outrightly.
“It is a matter of investigation and all the records need to be seen,”  he said.
He added as the patient was referred to LD hospital the probable cause of death also needs to be taken into consideration.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Basharat Qayoom, said that the unfortunate death happened at LD hospital after the case was referred from DH Pulwama.
He added that there were reports of negligence which came to fore through media and other sources.
“ I am constituting a multi member committee for inquiry,” he said, adding that after the report of the committee further course of action will be decided accordingly.
