Pulwama, Nov 21: Amir Mushtaq Mir, a 9th-grade prodigy from Government Boys Higher Secondary School Khrew in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, has taken a giant leap towards eco-friendly lawn care with his ingenious solar-powered grass cutter.
Hailing from Ismail Colony Satpukhran, a distant village in Pampore area of Pulwama, Amir’s creation not only showcases his inventive spirit but also promises an affordable alternative to traditional fuel-based grass cutters.
This cost-effective model may be a potential alternative to petrol and diesel-run machines available in the market.
Amir’s solar-powered grass cutter, a marvel in simplicity and efficiency, has garnered praise for its potential to ease grass-cutting methods while significantly reducing fuel consumption.
Amir’s inspiration struck during a zonal level model-making competition.
Fuelled by a desire to create a solution for farmers dealing with grass and weeds, Amir, with a background in agriculture, set out to develop a model that is not only environmentally friendly but also economically viable.
“The battery of this grass cutter needs to be charged only once and then it will get charged by sun radiation as it is backed by a solar panel,” explained Amir.
The foldable design, crafted with wooden planks and toy tires, makes it easy to carry, catering to the practical needs of farmers.
Amir’s journey from local exhibitions to the Union Territory (UT) level exhibition in Srinagar underscores the potential impact of student innovation.
His dedication to improvement is evident as he envisions further enhancements to his model, provided he receives sponsorship from an agency.
School officials and teachers commend Amir’s achievement, emphasizing the importance of fostering inventive thinking among students. Principal Mushtaq Ahmad lauds Amir’s foresight, highlighting the significance of cultivating a culture of innovation within the educational system.
“The students possess many hidden talents, as educators we have to provide them a platform to showcase their talent,” he said.
