Anantnag, May 02: Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri, Senior Vice President of the National Conference (NC) for the Kashmir province, on Thursday said the decision to postpone the elections in the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat has angered the people who will “strongly come out and vote against the proxies” of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Addressing a gathering in the Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, Dr Veeri said only the NC has the capacity to address the challenges that have left J&K in “distress”. He said NC is receiving an overwhelming response from the people, which indicates their willingness to vote against the circumstances post-2019.
He said, “Why is the BJP hiding behind the curtains and putting forth ‘bat’. They lack the courage to face the people directly. The BJP engaged in gerrymandering with the Anantnag-Rajouri Parliamentary seat, attempting to manipulate it for their advantage. Despite their efforts, they lacked the courage to directly confront the people. This should indicate to the people where the true momentum lies.”
Responding to a question on the rescheduled polls, the NC leader said, “This dispensation is playing a conspiracy. Polls are rescheduled on the demands of those who are not even contesting in this constituency.”
Dr Veeri said that people are joining Mian Altaf’s gatherings in large numbers. “Mian Sahib is not only honest but also a spiritual leader. He has consistently worked for the welfare of the people, attracting followers from across the community divide,” he said.
