Jammu, Oct 04: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Working President Raman Bhalla on Wednesday said that Congress has always protected the interests of all sections of society, especially downtrodden and marginalised sections.
The party, he said, has ensured the due share and participation of the people of these sections in every sphere of life including political empowerment right from basic institutions of democracy to highest levels.
Bhalla said this while handing over keys of Scooties to physically-abled persons at Panchayat Narwal during a programme organised by Panch Gagan Bral at Rajeev Nagar Bahu Constituency, the JKPCC said in a statement, adding that prominent among those present on the occasion include Satish Sharma, Block President Jatinder Singh Chib, Madam Harvinder Kour, Master Paras Ram Baloria, Gopal Sharma and Diwan Chand.
During the press conference, Raman Bhalla highlighted the Congress Party’s achievements in uplifting oppressed sections of society. He emphasised that the party’s policies have always been aimed at the welfare of the poor and downtrodden.
The Congress introduced reservation for SC and ST communities in jobs, admissions, and legislature, and ensured equality in the Constitution under the leadership of Dr BR Ambedkar, he said.
The JKPCC leader also credited the party, under Rajiv Gandhi’s leadership, for granting 33 percent reservation for women, including SC women, and proportional representation to SC, ST, and OBC in all tiers of Panchayats and ULBs through 73rd and 74th amendments.
He criticized the current government for ‘bringing miseries through unprecedented price rises, heavy taxation, and snatch of land from poor farmers”. He asserted that the Congress Party will undo the wrongs of the BJP government and implement people-friendly, pro-poor policies in Jammu and Kashmir.
Bhalla also reminded the press of Congress’s contributions towards the political empowerment of downtrodden sections of society through policies like the Reservation Act of 2004. He accused the BJP of creating division and polarisation for vote bank politics, urging people not to fall prey to such exploitation. He highlighted Congress’s emphasis on uniting people, as seen in Rahul Gandhi’s 4000km Padyatra “Bharat Jodo Yatra” from Kanyakumari to Kashmir.
The Congress leader lambasted the BJP for its “anti-poor policies”, which he said led to a record rise in unemployment and price hikes.
He also announced the election of senior leader Malikarjun Kharge as President of the Congress party, hailing his selection as a significant win for the downtrodden community. Bhalla promised that Congress would continue with its commitment towards pro-poor policies and fight for the rights of the oppressed and marginalised.
