In yet another significant measure towards combating drug abuse and dismantling illicit drug networks, Srinagar Police has attached a residential property valuing about Rs 18 lakhs belonging to a notorious drug peddler Javid Ahmad Wani son of Ali Mohammad resident of Gasoo Tehsil Hazratbal under the provisions of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act 1985.

The accused person stands implicated in several drug related cases including case FIR No. 136/2022 u/s 8/20 NDPS Act of Police Station Nigeen and Case FIR No. 27/2024 u/s 8/20, 21 NDPS Act of Police Station Zakoora.

Pertinent to mention here that the accused person has been a chronic drug peddler selling drugs and narcotic substances in the area, especially targeting the youth, which created a challenging environment for public safety and order.

The aforementioned property which has been acquired from the proceeds of illegal drug trade has been attached under section 68F of the NDPS Act with confirmation from the competent authority and administrator, Smugglers and Foreign Exchange Manipulators- Forfeiture of Property Act ( SAFEMA ), New Delhi.

In compliance to section 68E and 68F of NDPS Act, the immovable property acquired by the accused person through illegal means which stands seized and attached, shall not be transferred/sold/purchased or otherwise dealt with without the prior permission of the competent authority.

This stern action represents significant move in J&K Police’s ongoing efforts to disrupt drug trafficking operations and confiscate assets acquired through illegal narcotics activities and by targeting the financial foundations of drug networks, J&K Police aims to curb the spread of this menace in society.

J&K Police reaffirms its commitment to protecting the community from the dangers of drug abuse and pledge to continue taking stringent action against those involved in this illegal trade. Public cooperation is crucial in this fight, and anyone with information about drug-related activities is urged to contact the nearest police station.

For any information related to drug dealers/peddlers in Srinagar, citizens are encouraged to contact the police through official helpline number 9596770550.

Together, we can build a safer and healthier Srinagar.
