Jammu, Oct 08: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) President Vikar Rasool Wani on Sunday expressed deep concerns about the state of democracy, the Constitution, and the country under the current BJP government. He asserted that the Congress party, with its principled approach, is better equipped to govern and develop the nation.
Addressing a ‘Save Constitution Rally’ here, Wani criticised the BJP’s unfulfilled promises, particularly their failure to curb black money and generate employment for the youth and highlighted the saffron party’s reliance on slogans like ‘Achhe Din’ (good days) and ‘Hindutva,’ which, according to Wani, have not translated into substantial progress. He stressed the importance of unity among religions, a value he believes Congress upholds diligently.
The JKPCC Chief said Congress follows principles in politics, while the BJP leaders try to destroy peace and brotherhood across the country. “People have to decide and choose between fake and true leaders in Lok Sabha election,” he said.
“Congress has emerged a vibrant force in J&K and the joining of more and more important leaders from political parties that Congress would win with a thumping majority in forthcoming ULB elections.,” he said, adding, “Congress worked for decades to foster social tranquillity, brotherhood by uniting people. The party’s top leadership has been trying to provide opportunities to people of all hues, communities and beliefs without any discrimination.”
Wani’s sentiments were echoed by JKPCC Working President Raman Bhalla, who emphasised Congress’s dedication to the well-being of the people in Jammu & Kashmir. Bhalla asserted that Congress has always addressed the needs and aspirations of every section of the erstwhile state. He expressed confidence that Congress would become the leading party in the upcoming elections, attributing this optimism to the growing support from the people. He criticised the BJP-led government for sowing divisions through “policies of hatred and division”.
Former minister Yogesh Sawhney condemned the NDA government for ignoring the fundamental rights of underprivileged communities, particularly the Scheduled Castes. He pledged that a Congress government, once elected, would eliminate discrimination and ensure social justice for all.
In his address, NSUI National President Neeraj Kundan highlighted Congress’s historical role as the champion of underprivileged communities, especially the Scheduled Castes. He expressed confidence that SC voters would support Congress candidates en masse in the upcoming Panchayat, ULB, and Assembly polls.
SC Cell Vice Chairman Pawan Bhagat and Congress Refugee Cell Chairman Amrit Bali criticised the BJP for failing to conduct fair selection processes for unemployed youth, leading to widespread protests. They highlighted the absence of development and employment opportunities for the youth, demanding a positive response from the LG administration.
The Congress leaders emphasised the need for “genuine” progress, unity, and social justice in Jammu & Kashmir. They called for an end to divisive politics and pledged to create a better future for all if elected to power.
