Srinagar, May 14: Senior Peoples Democratic Party leader Zaffer Mir on Thursday expressed concern over the worsening drinking water crisis in several areas of Budgam district, alleging years of administrative neglect and failure of the water supply infrastructure.
In a statement, Mir said villages including Bugam-Batpora, Wathoora, Kralpora and Chadoora were facing acute shortage of potable water and accused the concerned departments of failing to address the issue despite repeated public complaints.
He referred to the recent inspection conducted by a House Committee headed by MLA Hasnain Masoodi, saying the visit exposed the poor condition of water infrastructure in the district.
Mir alleged that while Budgam serves as a major water source for Srinagar and nearby areas, many villages within the district continue to suffer due to inadequate and unsafe drinking water supply.
He also criticised the Jal Shakti Department for what he termed administrative inertia and delay in completion of several water supply projects, warning that supply of untreated water could pose serious public health risks.
The PDP leader further claimed that Chadoora constituency continued to face neglect in sectors such as drinking water, irrigation and road connectivity despite being represented by a ruling party legislator.
Mir urged the government to take immediate steps to improve water supply infrastructure and ensure safe and uninterrupted drinking water to the affected areas.
