Srinagar, May 08: The Democratic Party of Azad Kashmir (DPAP) on Wednesday accused the National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) of prioritising personal agendas over the substantive issues facing Kashmiris.
According to a party statement issued here, the DPAP leaders, including Vice Chairman G.M. Saroori, Chief Spokesperson Salman Nizami, Lok Sabha Candidate Amir Bhatt, and others, visited Budgam areas to rally support for DPAP candidate Amir Bhatt.
During the public address, Saroori slammed the NC and PDP, questioning their track record in addressing Kashmir’s pressing issues. He highlighted the development witnessed during the party chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad’s tenure as Chief Minister.
Saroori challenged the rival party leaders to showcase their developmental achievements rather than relying solely on promises of autonomy and self-rule. He cautioned against potential alliances between NC, PDP, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying that such collaborations could compromise Kashmiris’ interests and lead to the manipulation of votes.
Echoing Saroori’s concerns, Amir Bhatt underscored the dangers of NC and PDP forming alliances with BJP, citing previous collaborations between the parties. These parties remained silent on critical issues affecting Kashmiris, such as high electricity fees.
Amir pledged to address these concerns in Parliament, saying DPAP is committed to advocating for the genuine issues affecting the region.
Salman Nizami criticised NC chief Farooq Abdullah’s calls for sacrifice. He questioned the sacrifices made by Abdullah and his family for Kashmiris. Nizami pointed out that while Abdullah’s son and grandchildren enjoyed privileges abroad, many Kashmiri youth faced challenges such as militancy and drug abuse. He urged voters to support young leader Amir Bhatt, saying that he would prioritise justice over exploitation, unlike other parties.
