Baramulla, Nov 15: The Power Development Department of Baramulla division on Tuesday warned defaulters in the Old Town area of strict action for not paying pending electricity dues.
An official told Rising Kashmir that the department has issued a notice asking defaulters in the Old Town area to pay pending electricity bills else a case will be lodged against them.
“It is to inform all Mohalla presidents to advise the defaulter consumers of your Mohalla to pay your pending electricity bills immediately, otherwise FIR in the police station Baramulla will be lodged against the defaulters,” reads the notice shared with the residents.
AEE PDD Abdul Hamid Malla told Rising Kashmir that there are hundreds of consumers in the Old Town who have not paid any power dues for the last several years.
“Such defaulters were appealed through Mohalla heads to clear their dues and were given amnesty as well but they are not paying the bills. Now we have warned them and also those who are using illegal connections,” Malla said.
He said the defaulters include those who have not paid electricity dues for 6 months to 10 years despite several notices.
The AEE PDD also informed that at least 697 consumers have not paid their dues for the last several years, while around 130 households have availed of an amnesty scheme to date. “We appealed to them, and those consumers who have any issue can visit our office for the required assistance,” he said.
