Pattan, May 29:  People from different villages of Pattan in Baramulla district have called upon the government to undertake the macadamisation of the Pattan-Magam road, as it serves as a crucial link connecting Baramulla district to Budgam district.

Haji Mohammad Asadullah Mir, a local resident of Kongamdara village, informed Rising Kashmir that the Pattan road,  is in poor condition from Hajiwera to Magam.

“A few years ago, the government had already undertaken the macadamisation of this road, but they failed to construct a drainage system on both sides of the road, which would prevent water from freezing during rainfall and snowfall times ,” he said.

Mir said that it has been a considerable time since they have been struggling with the deteriorating road conditions. During rainy weather, the road becomes a cesspool, significantly affecting the residents, he said.

Sajad Ahmad, a Sumo driver, mentioned that the potholes along the road from Hajiwera to Magam are damaging their vehicles, resulting in substantial daily losses.

The locals have appealed to Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to investigate the situation and initiate the macadamisation of the Pattan-Magam road.

When contacted,  an official from the PMGSY department in Baramulla district said that the macadamisation from Hajiwera to Magam will commence very soon.
