Baramulla, Jan 18: In an ongoing effort to clear the state land of illegal encroachments, hundreds of kanals have been evacuated in this north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, even as public notices have been issued to violators to remove the illegal constructions within three days.
The authorities in Baramulla have started the process of reclaiming the land and have also warned of strict action against those who try to reoccupy the land.
Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr Syed Sehrish Asgar said the anti-encroachment drive is going on in the district and the authorities have recovered around 200 kanals of state and kahcharai land from illegal possession. She said the district administration had adopted a unique approach to ensure these tracts of recovered land are not encroached upon again.
The DC said the drive is being conducted by a joint team of revenue officials, police and other government departments, who have been working together to clear the state land.
“We have taken teams from various departments along in this drive. The recovered land is handed over to agriculture, sericulture or any other department as per feasibility so that these lands are not encroached upon again. Wherever playing fields are needed, we are providing land to BDO for that as well,” she said.
The authorities also issued notices in the entire district directing the encroachers to vacate the state land within three days or face strict action. Officials said the anti-encroachment drive, which began recently, will continue in the coming days.
“At Aglar Pattan, 80 kanals of encroached land was recovered while 10 kanals at Khoi, 140 kanals of prime land opposite Tehsil office Singhpora, 2 kanals of land in front of Tehsil office Pattan and 24 kanals at Heng Rajpora were recovered from the encroachers,” the DC Baramulla further said.
She said the drive is being conducted to ensure that state land is used for the intended purpose and not illegally occupied by individuals.
As per the official data, there are around 3,53,533 kanals and 9 marlas of state land being encroached over the years with the majority of the land having been used in constructing residential houses and other structures.
