Srinagar, Mar 29: National Conference (NC) Women’s Wing President and MLA Habba Kadal Shameema Firdous reiterated that the Omar Abdullah-led government is committed to enhancing public transportation in the historically significant old city areas that were previously disconnected from major traffic routes.
Firdous made these remarks while launching the smart bus service from Jehangir Chowk to the old city interiors including Habba Kadal, Bohri Kadal, Nawab Bazar and Jama Lata. The event was attended by local party officials and Srinagar Smart City bus service representatives.
Highlighting the significance of the bus service, MLA Firdous said, “The city interiors had been neglected by successive governments since 2014, resulting in a lack of initiatives to improve public transportation.”
She said the residents of the old city had to endure long journeys in unpredictable weather conditions to catch a bus, leading to wasted time. “The absence of dedicated bus services to the city interiors also posed challenges for patients and elderly individuals,” she added.
The MLA expressed confidence that the introduction of the smart city bus service would breathe new life into the old city areas, making public transportation more convenient.
Shameema said the development of Srinagar has always been a top priority for the National Conference. “We are determined to ensure a better quality of life for the city’s residents. The Omar Abdullah government has a five-year mandate and is fully committed to meeting the expectations of the people of Srinagar,” she said.
