The United States of America(USA) has brought to the fore very clearly and vividly that the nature of democracies is changing in a very different manner. Thousands of protestors hit the streets across the United States(US) on the Presidents day. These protests were organised to oppose the policies of the recently inaugurated President Donald Trump, who took the reins of power in January this year citing his policies in an aggressive manner. Wherein, he clearly said that his regime will ensure that America is restored to the Americans. This was meant to target the immigrants from across the globe that includes the Indians who have contributed to the US economy and made the American dream a reality. It is pertinent to mention that Indian immigrants were handcuffed and deported to India in the military plane. It didn’t go well within India. Be it in the political class or the common citizens. There is a rage among the masses as the people have started looking towards the US as a dependable ally. The reason being a democratic nation. Who would have anticipated that instead of the nations whose citizens were being deported by calling them allegedly as illegal immigrants, the US government will face the heat on the streets from its own citizens and embarrass the newly sworn President. The people who have protested called President Trump as “king”, a jibe meant to symbolise that he is an autocrat who has acted as a high handed monarch determined to fire prosecutors, dismiss independent watchdogs and downsize the federal jobs.Much before these protests the US President defended his decisions and took refuge in the quote of the Napoleon Bonaparte that he who saves his country does not violate any law. This made the many people to internalise that the new President will go to any extent to cross the legal limits. They did not stop here but protested against his billionaire advisor Elon Musk who is heading the Department of Government Efficiency that is meant to cut federal spending. These protests on the Us streets have been organised by a group known as 50501 movement. They have termed Trump 2.0 zero regime’s actions as overreach. These protests engulfed the entire US from the Union Square in New York to the California State Capitol. In these rallies the theme ranged from “Not My Presidents Day” to “No Kings Day”. The message was loud and clear that the Americans oppose the autocratic approach of the new dispensation and are nor ready to tolerate the unilateral imposition of the new policies dictated by the Trump regime. The rallies and protests could be witnessed upholding the national Us flags and wearing the patriot symbols. The singers performed the national anthem. This was a message that the people represent the national spirit of the US and do not endorse the policies of the new regime. The protestors carried the signs and banners with a clear message that this is a coup and making jibes that cowards bow to Trump. Patriots stand up. These protests in America bring home the point that in the present democratic order people may vote a party to power with absolute majority but will not lose an opportunity as well to take the elected government to the task for its policies that affect the masses adversely without waiting for the opposition parties to resist the ruling dispensation to keep it in check. Only time will tell as to what will be the outcome of this dissent on the American streets against the Trump regime. What has happened on 17th February 2025 on the US streets must make the political class think across the globe that governance is beyond gaining majority in elections.
