JAMMU, Oct 6: The decision regarding the nomination of five members to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly will be made immediately after the results of the assembly elections are announced on October 8.
In line with the directive from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Lieutenant Governor (LG) will nominate two Kashmiri Pandits, one representative from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), and two women to the assembly.
RavinderRaina, J&K BJP UT President, informed Rising Kashmir, “These five MLAs will be nominated to the J&K Legislative Assembly by LG Manoj Sinha, following the results of the assembly elections on October 8.”
Raina emphasized the significance of these nominations, stating that the five members will play a crucial role in the formation of the government in Jammu and Kashmir. The majority mark in the 90-member assembly will rise to 48 with the inclusion of these nominees.
Following the recent delimitation, the total number of assembly seats increased to 90, comprising 47 seats in the Kashmir region and 43 in Jammu.
BJP Working President Sat Sharma said that the MHA will recommend the names of the five MLAs to the LG immediately after the election results are declared. Subsequently, the Lieutenant Governor will exercise his powers to nominate the five members to the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
