FUNCTIONS: Iodine is central to the production of thyroid hormones thyroxine and triiodothyronine. These are crucial for normal metabolism of the body.

SOURCES: Iodized salt and other fortified foods. Some amount is ingested from seafood, egg, chicken and milk
