Srinagar, Sept 13: People’s Conference (PC) leader and former MLA Pattan, Imran Raza Ansari on Friday alleged that the National Conference (NC) candidate for Pattan was involved in civilian killings during the 2010 unrest in Kashmir.
Addressing a public gathering in Palhallan in north Kashmir, Ansari said this village has suffered and has witnessed turmoil, with hundreds of youth losing their lives over the past 30 years.
“You must not forget their sacrifices and should refrain from voting for those involved in their killings,” he said.
“I am not making this up; you can verify it through newspaper reports. NC candidate for Pattan, who was the SSP at the time, was involved in the killing of Tufail Matoo, who died after a tear gas shell struck his head in Srinagar,” he alleged.
The PC leader said if he is elected, he will revoke the FIR against the youth and will work for development in the area. “I will become an ambassador of the people of Pattan,” he said.
Speaking on AIP chief Er Rashid’s release, Imran asked why others, who have been imprisoned for years, are still behind bars. “If Er Rashid can be released on bail, why not Molvi Nasir of Palhallan, Shabir Shah, or Yaseen Malik? It is unfortunate that they are playing with the emotions of the people,” he said.
Ansari said he is accused of being aligned with the BJP and the People’s Conference labelled as A and B teams of the saffron party.
“(PC chief) Sajad Lone’s father was killed and now people are labelling him an agent of the BJP. Even he met PM Modi for the people of Kashmir, not any other cause,” he said. “People will come and misguide you. You will give your vote to those who will fight for you, but they should not forget the sacrifices of those who laid their lives for their future.”
