Srinagar, Feb 01: National Conference (NC) senior leader and Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq on Saturday expressed appreciation for several key measures in the Union Budget 2025. He called for greater focus on Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism and development.
Sadiq in a statement issued here welcomed the income tax exemption for individuals earning up to Rs 12 lakh annually but urged the Central government to include J&K in its list of India’s top 50 tourist destinations. He firmly opposed the installation of water meters, reaffirming that no water fees would be imposed on residents.
Sadiq, who also serves as the National Conference’s chief spokesperson, shared his initial reactions to the budget. “We view certain aspects of the budget positively, such as the income tax relief for incomes up to Rs 12 lakh and the emphasis on tackling the drug menace,” he stated.
He highlighted J&K’s immense potential as a tourism hub and called for its inclusion in the government’s initiative to promote 50 premier tourist destinations. “The people of Jammu and Kashmir are hopeful that the region will be included in the list of 50 tourist destinations under discussion. We expect J&K to be part of this plan,” he said.
The MLA Zadibal called for developing medical tourism in the region, saying, “J&K is not just a tourism hub; it has the potential to become a centre for medical tourism as well. While the budget appears balanced at first glance, we will provide a more detailed analysis once we have the complete figures. What we seek is a comprehensive package for J&K.”
Sadiq appealed to the Government of India to prioritise J&K’s development and employment needs, especially in light of the recent elections that saw a government elected after decades. “The people of J&K have given a clear mandate, and it is imperative for the Government of India to honour this by providing a substantial package focused on employment and development,” he asserted.
On the contentious issue of water meter installations, Sadiq reiterated the party’s unwavering stance. “We have made it clear that no charges will be levied on water usage for residents. While we will consider commercial aspects, the installation of water meters is not on the table for now,” he declared.
