Jammu, Jan 16: Senior leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) on Tuesday strongly condemned the ‘Wall Writing Campaign’ initiated by the Jammu and Kashmir Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership in the Union Territory.
In a statement, Vijay Lochan (Chairman, JKNC SC Cell) and Rakesh Singh Raka (JKNC Central Zone Vice President, Jammu), expressed their disapproval, saying that such actions demean even the “so-called” smart cities projects in Jammu and Srinagar.
In a joint statement to the media, the JKNC leaders criticized the BJP leaders for “defacing” walls, considering it a violation of the Municipal Act in force in J&K. They pointed out that wall defacement is an offence under the law, attracting strict punishment, including fines up to Rs 5 lakh and recurring fines for continuing offences. The leaders questioned the BJP’s commitment to the welfare of the people, citing their blatant disregard for the law.
Vijay Lochan and Rakesh Raka argued that the people of J&K, particularly in Jammu, are disillusioned with the BJP’s rule, and such campaigns only expose the party’s misdeeds. They emphasized that these actions would not help the BJP regain political ground in the region but would further alienate the public.
The leaders accused the BJP of living in a fool’s paradise, believing that such campaigns could reverse their losses in J&K’s political arena. They concluded that these efforts only highlight the party’s misrule, especially in a sensitive region like J&K.
