Jammu, Aug 03: As part of its ongoing weekly Sunday Theatre series, renowned theatre group Natrang Sunday presented the Urdu play ‘Kissa Badal Gaya’ at its Studio Theatre, drawing appreciation from audiences for its comic satire and sharp social commentary.A statement issued here said that written by Showkat Thanvi and skilfully directed by Neeraj Kant, the play tells the story of a typical household ruled by class hierarchy. It opens with the house owner Zafar and his wife Jameela berating their servants Rahim and Naseeban for breaking crockery and poor work ethics. The narrative unfolds humorously as it’s revealed that the servants have been imitating their masters—buying similar shoes, clothes and cosmetics. The twist comes when Zafar buys an expensive lottery ticket, and Rahim, emulating his master, does the same—by selling his wife’s earrings. To Zafar’s shock, Rahim wins the jackpot and becomes a millionaire. The balance of power shifts, but what follows is an exploration of class psychology: despite their new wealth, Rahim and Naseeban struggle to adopt the habits of the elite, clinging to their former mindset. In a delightful turn of events, the former masters now find themselves at the mercy of their former servants, who begin criticising them in the same way they were once criticised. Eventually, both parties realise their interdependence, deciding to live together harmoniously with mutual respect. The performance featured a powerful ensemble led by Pawan Verma, recipient of the J&K State Award and National Fellowship from the Ministry of Culture. He was joined by Kananpreet Kaur, Palshin Dutta, Prerna Sharma, and Kushal Bhat, all of whom delivered noteworthy performances.Lighting for the production was managed by Neeraj Kant, sound was executed by Kartik Kumar, while Mohd. Yaseen coordinated the show. Presentations were handled by Aryan Sharma. Natrang’s continued dedication to promoting socially relevant theatre through engaging narratives once again received resounding applause from the audience.
