Jammu, Jan 13: The National Aerobic Gymnastics Championship 2024-25 concluded today at the New Indoor Stadium, M.A. Stadium Jammu, with Maharashtra securing the championship title, followed by Gujarat in second place and the host team, Jammu & Kashmir, finishing as the 2nd runner-up.
The championship, organized by the J&K Sports Council in collaboration with the Gymnastics Federation of India and the Gymnastics Association of Jammu and Kashmir, witnessed participation from over 500 athletes and officials representing 20 states, union territories and boards.
The event also brought significant recognition to J&K as two of its gymnasts, Rudraksh Khanna and Riya Sharma, were selected for the prestigious FIG Suzuki World Cup, a testament to their exceptional talent and dedication.
Secretary Youth Services and Sports, Sarmad Hafeez expressed pride in the achievements of the J&K team and the successful hosting of the championship. “This event has not only showcased talent but also fostered a spirit of sportsmanship and unity,” he remarked.
Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, while distributing the awards, praised the performance of J&K athletes and their coaches and said that these kinds of national championships provide athletes a platform to prove their mettle. She further assured that more such events will be organized and hosted by the J&K Sports Council throughout the year.
Kiran Wattal, Vice President of GFI and President of the Gymnastics Association of J&K, thanked the J&K Sports Council for its unwavering support during the tournament and said that J&K is one of the top preferences of GFI to host training camps and national championships.
The championship, part of the ‘My Youth My Pride’ and ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ initiatives, concluded in an atmosphere of celebration and inspiration as hundreds of athletes and spectators gathered to witness the grand finale. The event has once again positioned J&K as a key destination for national sports activities.
