Doda, Aug 10: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) chairman Ghulam Nabi Azad on Thursday lashed out at the previous regimes for their “anti-people” policies saying his “all pro-people and developmental initiatives” have been reversed by the present dispensation.
“The tough approach has hurt the people economically and the unemployment level rose to an unprecedented level during the last several years,” Azad said, adding, “I, as the Chief Minister of J&K, build massive tourism projects، created Self Help Groups of unemployed engineers and ensured the rural economy is given a boost.”
He said when he started developmental works in “triple shifts”, it provided job opportunities to all those who were migrating to other states to earn their livelihood. “There was peace, prosperity and a booming economy but when I look at the present situation, the people are under immense pressure, running here and there seeking employment and manual jobs. This is what we have been reduced to,” he said.
The former CM assured that he will “come back with the golden era” if voted to power and promised the development of the Chenab Valley. He said there is no area left where he didn’t connect with the roads and provided hospitals and schools.
Azad is on a ten-day tour of the Chenab Valley to meet delegations and address public programmes. On Thursday, he visited Kapra, Ghati Morh and Karehi Chinta blocks.
“My aim is to uplift the rural economy and provide a source of living for all. We have huge potential in the Chenab Valley and it is rich in natural resources and I have a plan ready for it,” he said, adding that it is important for the workers to strengthen the party cadre at the grassroots level.
“I am asking you all to get ready and reach out to people at their doors and ensure they are becoming part of this caravan of peace and development,” he said.
