Baramulla, July 13: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Vice-President and former MLC, G N Monga on Saturday demanded immediate restoration of statehood and early assembly elections as per the wishes of the people of the region.
“It is time for our voices to be heard. It is time for Jammu and Kashmir to reclaim its statehood and for the people to choose their representatives through free and fair elections,” he said in a statement.
Monga accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of making false promises about the restoration of statehood and assembly polls in J&K for a long time.
Addressing the party workers in Baramulla, Monga said, “Bifurcating a state with special status into two Union Territories (UTs) is unprecedented and very unfortunate. Even delimitation of assembly and parliament constituencies was done to favour a particular party, but we don’t want to discuss it here this time. We want early restoration of statehood and assembly polls.”
He added, “The Congress party is ready to contest, ready to lead and ready to rebuild a future for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
“Driven by the wishes of our dedicated party workers, the Congress stands ready to contest assembly elections, on all seats, without alliances,” he said when asked whether the Congress will enter into an alliance with the NC like recent Lok Sabha polls.
