National Conference candidate Javid Hassan Baig, who secured a decisive victory in the Baramulla Assembly Constituency, emphasized the critical need for the government to honor the people’s mandate, stating that a government unable to aid its citizens has no right to govern.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, Baig highlighted key issues, including healthcare, education, agriculture, tourism, and rural development, which he believes the new administration must prioritize.
“The new administration must bridge the gap between Jammu & Kashmir and the Central Government, with the restoration of statehood as the foremost step,” Baig asserted.
He called for urgent focus on sectors such as healthcare, education, social welfare, horticulture, agriculture, tourism, and both rural and urban development.
“The valley’s horticulture industry has withered, leaving farmers in dire straits. The reality on the ground starkly contrasts with media portrayals,” he lamented.
Baig urged the government to effectively harness local resources, strengthen the economy, and rejuvenate local industries, stressing the need to alleviate the hardships of the poor and address the widespread anxiety and depression among the youth.
Addressing delays in developmental projects in Baramulla, Baig mentioned his recent efforts to expedite the construction of flyovers in Sangrama and Delina.
“Prominent figures in North Kashmir have neglected development due to personal rivalries. Now, people will witness tangible change,” he promised.
Baig expressed his dedication to Baramulla’s progress, having devoted two decades to serving the region. “I implore the people to place their trust in me; I stand with them, both inside and outside the assembly,” he said, expressing his aspiration to be a versatile legislator committed to nation-building.
He emphasized that all 90 MLAs in J&K bear the solemn responsibility of nation-building, grounded in truth and accountability.
Baig stressed the importance of supporting those in horticulture, agriculture, and tourism, stating, “A government that cannot aid its people has no right to govern.”
He also called for improved traffic management and enhanced sanitation in tourist areas to boost the visitor experience and the region’s reputation, recounting a recent visit to Gulmarg, where he was appalled by poor sanitation and heaps of garbage.
“The Assembly Elections, held after a decade, afforded the people a chance to respond to the events of August 5, 2019,” Baig remarked, highlighting that the people of J&K have chosen a party capable of governance and strength.
