Jammu, Mar 27: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Udhampur East, Ranbir Singh Pathania has operationalised an upgraded 33/11 kV Receiving Station at Dehma, effectively doubling its capacity from 3.3 MVA to 6 MVA.
The move is expected to alleviate power problems in the region and ensuring a stable power supply, the MLA said in a statement issued here.
Pathania emphasised the importance of advanced planning in developing the region’s power infrastructure during an event marking the station’s operational launch. “Three to four years ago, a new power station was established at Dehma, but the surge in power usage from JJM and private motors led to ongoing issues of low voltage and unscheduled outages. This upgrade is a significant step towards providing stable and uninterrupted electricity to our residents and industries,” he said.
The Dehma upgrade follows the recent enhancement of the Flata Receiving Station, which increased its capacity from 6.3 MVA to 10 MVA, thereby addressing critical issues of overloading and voltage fluctuations in the Tikri, Rambal, and Mand areas.
The BJP leader announced plans for a new 10 MVA Grid Station at Satani, which is expected to further improve the power situation in Jaganoo and its vicinity.
In a broader development initiative, a comprehensive scheme worth Rs 7 crore has been sanctioned for the “Comprehensive Development of Infrastructure at Mansar Lake.” “This plan includes upgrading the power distribution network, modernizing substations, and addressing existing grid deficiencies,” Pathania said, adding that this scheme will help resolve most power-related challenges faced by the community and significantly enhance the overall electricity scenario.
Moreover, the initiative aims to boost tourism at Mansar Lake, with provisions for battery-operated cars and E-rickshaws, development of charging and parking facilities, and the installation of water points and a Musical Fountain. The operation of a Sewerage Treatment Plant and the creation of game zones are also integral to the plan.
Local residents and community leaders welcomed the initiative, praising Pathania’s unwavering commitment to improving electricity infrastructure in the region, the statement said.
