Srinagar, Dec 18: People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Youth President and MLA Pulwama, Waheed Ur Rehman Parra on Wednesday visited the Divisional Workshop and Receiving Station of the Power Development Department (PDD) in Pulwama, where a massive fire tragically destroyed several transformers awaiting repair.
In a statement issued here, Parra said the incident has caused significant disruption to the electricity supply across multiple areas, leaving thousands of residents struggling in freezing winter conditions.
He said the massive fire at the Pulwama Divisional Workshop and Receiving Station had gutted several transformers awaiting repair. With the harsh winter season in full swing, urgent action is required to restore electricity in the affected areas and prevent further hardship for residents, he said.
The MLA inspected the site of the incident and assessed the damage caused by the fire, which gutted vital infrastructure and equipment at the workshop. Expressing deep concern, he said, “This is a crucial time for our people. The fire has caused immense damage, leaving several areas in darkness. The residents are already grappling with the challenges of harsh winters, and this incident has only worsened their struggles.”
Parra said more than 30 villages are currently facing power cuts as a result of the fire, severely impacting their daily lives. He urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to immediately intervene and take steps to alleviate the suffering of the people.
He called for the urgent need for swift and effective action to restore power to the affected areas. He requested the Chief Minister to expedite measures and ensure electricity restoration at the earliest.
MLA Parra also urged the government to prioritise investments in upgrading and maintaining critical facilities like the PDD workshop to avert similar crises in the future.
Calling for immediate measures, he said, “The immediate restoration of essential electricity supply, along with additional transformers and materials, will ensure that people are not left in the cold. The administration must act swiftly to bring the situation under control and provide relief to the affected households.”
During his visit, Parra interacted with the workshop staff and locals, assuring them of his full support and proactive efforts to resolve the crisis. He added that the incident had disrupted power supply to key areas, including households, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions.
Meanwhile, Parra also visited several villages in Pulwama Constituency to understand the firsthand challenges of people amid harsh winter. Speaking on the occasion, he said, “We are working towards resolving the issues they face and ensuring that progress reaches every corner.”
