Ganderbal, Jan 01: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kangan, Mian Mehar Ali has requested the Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma, to consider hosting the Khelo India Winter Games 2025 at Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
In a letter addressed to the minister, Mian Mehar highlighted Sonamarg’s immense potential for winter sports, saying, “With the imminent opening of the Z-Morh Gagangeer Tunnel, which will allow Sonamarg to remain accessible year-round, the destination is perfectly suited for hosting snow sports events of the Khelo India Winter Games 2025.”
He said that holding the games at Sonamarg would not only promote the destination as a winter sports hub but also boost local tourism and infrastructure development. “I shall feel highly grateful if the snow sports events of Khelo India Winter Games 2025 are conducted at Sonamarg,” the MLA said.
Ali also reviewed post-snowfall arrangements in a meeting with the CEO of the Sonamarg Development Authority. During the meeting, a detailed report was sought regarding the preparations for tourists and the readiness of the concerned departments to host winter sports at Sonamarg.
