Akhnoor, Mar 16: Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Akhnoor, Mohan Lal Bhagat on Sunday inaugurated the newly renovated passenger shed at the Akhnoor Bus Stand. The long-neglected shed has undergone a comprehensive refurbishment to provide travellers with a more comfortable and convenient waiting area.
The project, undertaken by the Municipal Committee Akhnoor under the District Capex-ULB plan, involved the construction of a new shed, renovation of the chabutra, repair of the footpath, and other allied works. The total project cost amounted to Rs 9.52 lakh, with an allotted budget of Rs 6.18 lakh for the financial year 2024-25.
The inauguration ceremony witnessed the presence of Municipal Committee Akhnoor’s Executive Officer, Tahir Hafiz (JKAS), alongside several prominent figures, including former Municipal Committee President Deepesh Singh, Sanjay Saraf, former councillor Rakesh Malhotra, Karn Singh and others.
In his address, MLA Bhagat reaffirmed his commitment to the holistic development of the Akhnoor Assembly Constituency. He highlighted his continuous efforts to raise local issues in the Assembly, advocating for the protection of the Chenab river banks, completion of the Mini Secretariat, and reopening of the Sub-District Hospital’s old building. He assured the public that solutions to these matters were being actively pursued.
The MLA, according to a statement issued here, shed light on the deteriorating condition of the Akhnoor Stadium, stating that he had brought the matter to the Assembly’s attention, demanding an inquiry and even bringing the Sports Minister to the site for inspection. He vowed to ensure that no official or employee would misuse public funds and strict action would be taken against any instances of corruption or negligence.
“The voice of Akhnoor will be echoed not just in the constituency but across the corridors of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. I stand committed to fighting for your rights and ensuring the development of our region,” he said.
The locals expressed their gratitude towards the Municipal Committee and the MLA for addressing long-standing infrastructural issues, marking this initiative as a step forward in Akhnoor’s development journey, the statement said.
