Bandipora, June 15: In a heart-wrenching incident, a two-year-old girl lost her life after drowning in an irrigation canal in the Ankhulu village of Sumbal in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
An official told Rising Kashmir that a minor girl identified as Janat Zehra daughter of Javid Ahmed Dar of Odina Sumbal accidentally fell into the irrigation canal, leading to the tragic outcome.
He said that the news of her drowning spread quickly, prompting a swift response from the locals and authorities.
Rescue operations was immediately initiated, with locals rallied together to retrieve the girl from the canal, official said adding that despite their best efforts, the precious life could not be saved.
He further said that the child was rushed to CHC Sumbal, where doctors declared her dead.
Following necessary legal procedures, the body was handed over to her family for last rites.
