Srinagar, Nov 27: The meteorological department on Monday forecasted the possibility of rain, snowfall on Tuesday across isolated places of the valley , stating that the wet spell may intensify till November 30th.
On Monday, Jammu and Kashmir experienced dry and partially cloudy weather across most regions. The entire valley was shrouded in dense fog and clouds, resulting in a cold breeze and a noticeable drop in daytime temperatures.
The dense fog descended upon the region, impacting vehicular traffic during both morning and evening hours. The reduced visibility prompted vehicles to exercise caution, as many were seen operating with headlights on for increased safety.
Director MeT department Srinagar, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad told Rising Kashmir that from November 27 till November 28, the weather will be generally remain cloudy with chances of light rain and snow at isolated places.
“There is possibility of light rain and snowfall at scattered places in Kashmir on November 29 and 30,” he added.
Director said that there was slight improvement in minimum temperatures over many stations of Kashmir division due to cloudy weather.“Shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue till November 28 over many places of Kashmir division,” he said.
“Looking ahead to the period between December 1st and 5th, the forecast suggests a continuation of partly to generally cloudy weather, coinciding with a marginal improvement in minimum temperatures across multiple stations within Kashmir,” he said.
The MeT director said that the night temperature in Srinagar improved to settle at 0°C on Sunday as against -1°C on Saturday. The lowest temperature was recorded in Konibal area of south Kashmir at -2.2°C while in Pahalgam, the mercury settled at -1.8°C.
In north Kashmir’s Kupwara, the minimum temperature settled at -0.7°C while it was 0.5°C in Gulmarg.
In Qazigund, he said the mercury settled at 2.6 degree Celsius and Banihal recorded 5.8 degree celsius.
The traffic police spokesman said traffic is plying normally on the Srinagar-Jammu highway and Sonmarg-Leh and Mugal road. People are advised to follow lane discipline, he said.
The spokesman said subject to fair weather and good road conditions on Tuesday, LMVs Passenger/Private Cars/HMVs/Load Carriers shall be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) viz Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.
Similarly on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri road, traffic will be allowed from both sides viz Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa. LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar between 0730 hrs. to 1100 hrs. Similarly, LMVs followed by HMVs shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Kargil between 1300 hrs to 1700 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timings, he added.
“The vehicular movement on Mughal road shall be allowed from both sides viz. Poonch towards Shopian and vice versa. These vehicles shall be allowed from Behramgalla (Buffliaz) and Herpora (Shopian) between 0600 hrs. to 1800 hrs. No vehicle shall be allowed after cut off timings,” the spokesman added.
