Srinagar, Dec 09: Security forces on Monday averted major tragedy after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered in Palpora TCP Hyderbeigh area along the Srinagar-Baramulla highway in north Kashmir.
A police officer told Rising Kashmir that security forces on Monday morning detected suspicious bags along Srinagar-Baramulla National Highway near a private school in Palpora outskirts. The place is adjacent to Army 10 Sector, which is the important Army installation in north Kashmir.
“Subsequently, a joint team of police, 29 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army, CRPF, and Sashastra Seema Bal rushed to the spot, and an improvised explosive device (IED) was detected, which was later diffused by the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) without any harm,” he said.
Meanwhile traffic was halted on the highway and was diverted via Hamray Bandipora highway towards Srinagar and similarly traffic from Srinagar was diverted from HMT towards Sumbal. After two hours, the traffic was restored on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway.
In response to the incident, the Police Station Pattan registered a case and initiated an investigation. The highway where the device was found serves as a vital artery for Army convoys heading to forward posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri and Kupwara.
Army Spokesman said that security forces recovered IED on National Highway-1 near Palhalan, Baramulla. Both Chinar Warriors and Police averted a major terror incident on Monday by recovering and destroying an IED on National Highway-1 near Palhalan, Baramulla, he said.
“Indian Army remains resolute in its commitment to keep Kashmir terror-free,” he added.
