JAMMU, July 30: For the first time, a Member of Parliament (MP) from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) has been nominated as ‘Whip’ of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Lok Sabha.
The BJP appointed Jugal Kishore Sharma to the position of ‘Whip’ of the party in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, following thorough discussions within the party.
“There were around half a dozen candidates under consideration for appointing ‘Whip of the BJP in the Lok Sabha,” reliable sources within the party informed. “Finally, Jugal Kishore’s name as ‘Whip’ of the party in Lok Sabha was finalized with unanimity.” Sharma was chosen for this prestigious role due to his contributions to the party and his conduct in the Lok Sabha over two consecutive terms.
It is noteworthy that Sharma has been elected as a BJP MP for three consecutive terms—twice from the Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha seat and, for the first time, from the newly formed Jammu-Reasi seat, which was created after delimitation.
In addition to Sharma’s appointment, Dr. Sanjay Jaiswal has been named as the ‘Chief Whip’ of the BJP in the Lok Sabha.
